Salt?N?Pepa formed in New York City in 1985 and were fronted by Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, with Deidra “Spinderella” Roper joining as DJ. Their 1987 breakthrough single "Push It" and later hits from the Very Necessary era ('Shoop', 'Whatta Man') made them one of the best?selling female rap acts (over 15 million records sold), and they won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "None of Your Business."
