About

Vivian Garcia is a Chicagoan born to Cuban parents. She began singing boleros and rumba flamenca covers in Chicago in 1999 with local groups and spent four years in Sarasota, Florida 2001-2005 performing in clubs throughout the region. Upon returning to Chicago without a band, she desired to grace the stage again. She boldly moved to live in Granada, Spain to study flamenco guitar at the Escuela Carmen de Las Cueva for several months in 2006 returning in 2007 and again in 2009 to continue learning. During 2010- 2013 while living in Madrid, Spain working on an M.A. in Spanish literature she longed once more to perform and came into contact with many folk musicians from the U.K., and Spain who would influence her songwriting. Playing the open mic circuit there in 2012, she began to write the songs that would eventually become her first self-produced album “Cold Bed”. It is a blend of folk and blues with some latin influences mixed in.

Since coming back from her time abroad she has performed at several venues in Chicago including Double Door, Subterranean, Martyrs, and Underground Wonder Bar as well as having performed for Taste of Chicago, Cumbiasazo, Fiesta del Sol, Celebrate Clark Street World Music Festival, Pilsen Fest and Villapalooza. Vivian released her EP In Between Times in 2016 and the song "Ven Conmigo" was featured on the HULU Emmy-nominated show East Los High. She is currently working on her next album set to be released Spring of 2018.
